Lemon and Ginger Tea: A Simple Daily Ritual
Lemon and ginger is one of the oldest tea pairings there is, and one of the easiest to make well. The sharpness of lemon and the warmth of ginger balance each other out, which is probably why the combination has stuck around for so long.
How to make it with fresh ingredients
- Slice a thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger into thin rounds, no need to peel it if it’s clean.
- Add it to a mug or small pan with hot water and simmer gently for 10 minutes if using a pan, or steep for 5 to 7 minutes in a covered mug.
- Squeeze in fresh lemon juice to taste, or add a few thin lemon slices.
- Strain if you used fresh ginger, and drink while hot.
A quicker way
If you want the same flavour without the prep, a ready-made lemon and ginger tea blend gives you the same combination in a tea bag or loose leaf form, ready in a few minutes. Our Strong Lemon and Ginger Tea is brewed the same way as any other loose tea: freshly boiled water, covered, for 5 to 7 minutes.
For an even faster cup
If you want something that dissolves straight into hot water with no straining at all, our Instant Ginger Lemon Tea with Honey Granules is a sachet version of the same pairing, sweetened with honey granules.
Hot or iced
Lemon and ginger tea works well cold too. Brew it a little stronger, let it cool, and pour over ice with extra lemon slices for a refreshing summer drink.
A pairing with history
Ginger has been traded and used in food and drink across Asia and Europe for centuries, and its pairing with citrus is common across many culinary traditions. You can read more about ginger’s background on Wikipedia’s ginger entry.
