Building a Herbal Tea Cabinet: A Beginner’s Guide

A collection of herbal teas and raw honey, an introduction to herbal tea

If you’re new to herbal tea, the sheer number of options can be overwhelming. This is a simple starting point: a few categories to know, and one or two teas from each to try first.

Mint teas: cooling and refreshing

A good place to start if you want something simple and familiar. Try our Strong Pure Peppermint Tea on its own, or our Moroccan Mint Tea if you want green tea alongside the mint. See our brewing guide for peppermint for the details.

Chamomile: for the evening

Mild, gentle and caffeine-free, chamomile is a good choice for winding down. Our Strong Pure Camomile Tea is a good place to start, and our chamomile guide covers how to build it into a simple evening routine.

Ginger blends: warming, and available instant

Ginger is probably the most versatile flavour in our range, paired with lemon, turmeric, mint or black pepper depending on what you’re after. If you want convenience, our instant sachets, like Instant Ginger Lemon Tea, dissolve straight into hot water. If you’d rather brew a loose leaf version, Strong Lemon and Ginger Tea is the traditional route.

Soursop and leaf teas: earthier, less sweet

If mint and lemon feel too bright, soursop leaf tea is a good contrast: earthier and more herbal. Our soursop tea guide explains what to expect from it.

Raw honey: to sweeten, or on its own

Most of our teas need no sweetener at all, but if you prefer a little, raw honey is a good choice over refined sugar. Our raw honey guide explains the difference between our acacia, wildflower and forest honeys.

A simple way to start

Rather than buying everything at once, pick one tea from two or three of these categories and see what you actually reach for. Herbal tea, unlike black tea or coffee, has enough variety that there’s usually something to suit most tastes, whether you want something cooling, warming, or calming.
